On paper, the same griddle
769 against 756 square inches. 60,000 BTU each. Four burners each. 78.0 against 79.4 BTU per square inch.
Every specification that predicts how a griddle cooks is effectively identical, and the Nexgrill is marginally ahead on heat density. This is the clearest example in our guide of something worth saying plainly: price in this category does not track cooking performance.
Where Nexgrill is actually ahead
Matched burners. Four at 15,000 BTU each. No weak zone, no strong zone, so where you cook something is purely about position rather than which burner happens to be stronger. Some multi-burner griddles pair different outputs and leave one zone inherently less useful.
Stainless lid and control panel at a size where several rivals use painted steel. Painted sheet is what rusts at the fixings first on a patio griddle, so stainless in those positions is a durability point rather than a cosmetic one.
What you are actually buying with Blackstone
Not performance. Optionality in year four.
Blackstone’s parts and accessory market at 36 inches is the deepest in the category: covers, hoods, replacement cooktops, burner assemblies, regulators, from the manufacturer and from a large third-party ecosystem. If a burner fails in 2030, you order one.
Nexgrill sells through a smaller number of retailers with thinner parts support. If a burner fails in 2030, the answer may be a new griddle.
Covers are the near-term version of the same problem: finding a correctly sized, vented cover for a Blackstone size is trivial, and for a Daytona it takes more effort.
How to think about the difference
Treat the price gap as an insurance premium on parts availability, and ask whether you want that insurance.
If you expect to keep this griddle for a decade and want it repairable throughout, buy the Blackstone. If you are comfortable that a griddle might be a five-to-seven-year appliance, the Nexgrill gives you the same cooking for less, which is why it is in our budget roundup.
Neither choice is wrong. What would be wrong is believing the Blackstone cooks better, because on these numbers it does not.
The picks in detail
Specifications are linked to their source on every card. Scores are ours, derived from those specifications.

#1 · Large families and crowd cooking
Blackstone 36" Original Griddle
The default large griddle: four burners over 769 square inches, with the highest burner count in its size class and the deepest accessory ecosystem of any brand here.

Scores

- Heat output9.0
- Zone control9.5
- Surface care6.5
- Portability3.0
What works
- Four independent zones is the real argument for this size — you can hold a warm zone and still sear
- 769 sq in is enough to cook a full breakfast for eight without staging
- The widest accessory and spare-parts availability of any brand in this guide
What to know
- Bare carbon steel: it will rust if you leave it uncovered and unseasoned
- Needs real patio footprint — this is not a griddle you put away each week
- Rear grease management means the drain is behind the unit, which is awkward against a wall

#2 · Blackstone 36 output for less money
Nexgrill Daytona 4-Burner Griddle
756 square inches and 60,000 BTU — the same heat and nearly the same surface as a Blackstone 36, from a brand with a smaller accessory ecosystem.
